CLICK - stop taking photos!

I am in Sicily at the moment and have been having the most gorgeous holiday time full of sunshine, gelato and rest. We are staying in a little town called Scopello which is right next to a nature reserve and as usually happens when I have spare time I have been going around taking lots and lots of photos of everything. I have put a few of my favourites so far in this post. Let me know what you think :)?
(All of these photos have been taken on a Panasonic Lumix  DMC-FZ38 and I have used no photo editing software- these are straight off the camera)

> This was a beautiful field of blown out thistle heads- I used the black and white setting on my camera here and underexposed just a little to create more contrast
In the second photo I have included a thistle very close up in the right hand corner of the screen which adds more depth and sense of perspective to the picture and I think makes it look better then the third photo.

> I like experimenting with the angles I take photos from. I put my camera really close to the ground and angled it up to take this shot making the plant look like it was extending up into the sky and adding drama to the picture.

> I always find it hard to show the true height or depth to a 3D view in a 2D camera picture. A little trick I use to try and help is to include a small glimpse of something closeup in a corner of the picture to give a contrast that can help to portray more depth;

> I was playing around with using forced flash here- I think it creates a really nice effect that highlights the beauty of the thistle head here.

> I love playing around with the black and white setting on my camera- I think that it can often add a sense of time, mystery and depth to an ordinary photo.

Outfit of the day and my admission of guilt

I am beginning to realise that I have an unhealthy attraction to H and M. On Saturday my boyfriend needed to get a new suit for work and so off to Oxford Street we went. I really ought to have realised this would not be a good idea for me before the event but hindsight is a wonderful thing. We came out of Picadilly Circus tube station to the most beautiful array of flagship stores ever. I struggled to contain my glee and look normal- I was not successful. Matt looked at me and asked if I felt ok? 'I'm just going to pop into a couple of shops- see you later' was my jumbled reply whilst flitting into the welcoming doors of the BIGGEST Topshop I have ever seen .

Three hours later I stumbled in a lovely blur out of H and M with three bags of clothes. I had/have a nasty case of sinusitis at the moment and this was probably a good deterrent to continuing my shopping spree otherwise who knows where the day would have taken me! I thought that instead of showing you what I bought all at once I might save it and do a couple of outfit of the day posts instead. We took these photos just as we were coming home that afternoon which is why I look just a little tired :D!

Do you have any shops that you find hard to resist?

Leggings, T-shirt and printed jacket- all H and M

Halloween nail art

As it is nearly Halloween I decided to do some witchy nail art to get in the mood. For a base coat I used a nude mushroom colour. Then I decided to give this Model's Own nail art pen a go. It is actually really easy to use with a very fine metal nib at the top and a thin paint brush at the bottom. For these nails I only used the fine metal nib at the top of the product as it worked really well for the precise thin lines that I wanted. Overall I was really imressed and I think I might get a couple more colours in the future to have a bit more of a play around.

Halloween pumpkin carving

I needed to get my pumpkin carved in time for Halloween so I decided that tonight would be the night! I flicked through lots of Pinterest images to find some inspiration and eventually decided I would try a castle scene and on the other pumpkin maybe a face eating a piece of fruit (!)

Unfortuately the second pumpkin we had bought had turned into a little pile of squishy orange mould in its bag and so I had to carve both of these ideas into two sides of the same pumpkin but it still worked pretty well. Let me know what you think of my finished attempts. Do you have any pumpkin carving ideas or pictures you could share because I love all things Halloween inspired at the moment!

Only joking!Don't eat pumpkin seeds- I'm pretty sure they are not edible.

My lovely friend Jack who came to help me carve the pumpkins

Urban countryside

What to wear for an outing to Richmond Park?  It turned out to be mostly bits and pieces from H and M- black basics skirt, purple Disney jumper and, my favourite, this leather sleeved overshirt. Perfectly practical!

PS I love how putting the picture of the stag into back and white brought out the beauty of the contrast between the dark antlers with their white bleached tips.

Outfit post and new accessories!

Outfit created from my recent H and M shopping spree (hehehe). I don't know if you can see them properly but I love these new jeans. They are leather up to the thighs so bring a bit of subtle naughtiness into the look but the top of the jeans are denim and they are super stretchy and comfortable so you sort of have the best of both worlds. I got this necklace from Boots which was a bit of a random find but I actually really like it!

The rings have little gold squares on them which I like and I think they would also look really nice if you stacked them all on top of each other on one finger. Then I REALLY love these earrings- i never normally wear anything other than studs but these are so delicate and yet sort of punky at the same time that I have worn them loads since I bought them (even at work).
