Winter Moodboard

Sometimes I don't feel like talking. Not in the sense that I am cross or upset or holding a grudge but just that I feel really comfortable and at peace being quiet and just watching things around me. I am in this mood tonight and therefore instead of writing to you about something I saw today I am going to try and express myself through pictures.

Disclaimer: I have tried to trace each of these pictures back to the original source and credited them underneath- if I have made any mistakes I am really sorry and please email me if you would like me to amend the post.

Inspired by a wintry woodland walk today :)

Musician of the month

In the Time by Hyperpotamus

I heard about this guy through a friend and we first went to Passing Clouds in Dalston to see him play. I was already a big fan of music made using a loop pedal because of my obsession with Dub FX and I was keen to see this kind of music being performed live. I absolutely loved his music and the passion and soul that went into the whole thing. For anyone who doesn't know this style of music is made by producing different sounds and recording each one before looping it back. The musician then builds up all these different layers and layers of sound that mix and interweave with each other into beautiful complex pieces of music that you can sink into and float amongst the harmonies.

You can follow the link above to see his favourite video of mine and while I was checking out his music on YouTube I stumbled across the Boss World Station Loop championships: This is where musicians from loads of different countries and genres with different types of instruments compete using the loop pedal. There are some absolutely amazing performances that you can check out on YouTube and I have left links to a few of my favourites below. What I love most about this kind of music is watching the musicians build up the music and how their bodies become part of the whole prcocess moving in time with the rhythm and blending into a kind of dance between microphone, loop pedal and instruments. Mmmmm so much love for this!

Bath Box

The other day I realised that I had all these different bath products scattered around in different places and no real organisation or system of using them. I decided to create my own Bath Box so that I had everything in one place and ready to use!

I like the Aussie hair care products- they smell amazing and make my hair really shiny.
This is a body butter from Soap and Glory- I like to use it after my bath to moisturise- it smells of oranges and sinks into the skin like cream.
I LOVE both of these products from Clarins-continuing with the orange theme this exfoliating cleanser smells amazing and really leaves your skin feeling fresh. The bath tonic also smells gorgeous and you only need the tiniest amount to create a lather.
I also use this on my face after getting out of the bath. My skin is getting really dry at the moment with all the central heating and bad weather and this really helps to keep moisture in and leave my skin feeling soft.
This is a fun shower gel from Lush that makes lots of foamy bubbles!
I love Neal's Yard products as they are mostly organic and full of excellent things for your skin. These three came in a gift pack last Christmas and I have almost used them all up.
These are Body Shop bath salts. I like sprinkling them into the bath after I have got in as they fizz slightly in the water and release the most gorgeous relaxing fragrance of lavender.
I got a whole pack of these face masks from Superdrug and I have a lot of fun trying them. I have been watching some YouTube videos recently where people are talking about sheet face masks so I think I might give those a try next.

What bath products do you use?

Chocolate Chip Cupcakes

I decided to have a go at making some chocolate chip cupcakes yesterday. I used a simple recipe and just enjoyed the whole process of making the batter, sifting the flour, whisking the eggs and adding the tiniest bit of vanilla essence to the mix. I love cooking but I used to live on a boat with a very very tiny kitchen and never managed to get the time and space to have a go at making things. Now I have moved into a flat I have lots of things I want to try!

The recipie to make these was as follows:

85g of butter
100g caster sugar
2 eggs (whisked lightly)
100g choc chips
225g self raising flour
25g cocoa powder

Turn the oven to 200 degrees (Gas Mark 6) and prep 18 cupcake cases or muffin tin if you prefer by greasing with butter.

Mix the butter and sugar with a wooden spoon until it goes nice and fluffy and looks a really light yellow. Then add the whisked eggs -be REALLY CAREFUL only to add them a little bit at a time because otherwise they can seperate and the mixture will go funny. After this add in all of the chocolate chips and gently mix them in. Then you can get a bit creative and add things for a touch of flavour. I chose vanilla essence and maple syrup.

In a different bowl carefully sift the flour and cocoa powder and then add this into the mix really gently so as to keep as much air in your mixture as possible. After this you can spoon your mix into the cupcake cases and smooth over the tops with the back of your spoon.

You want to bake them for about 20-25 mins until they feel a bit springy and then let them cool. After they are nice and cool you can get creative and decorate them in any way you like!

I have made a collection of cupcake decorating inspiration ideas below:
